Needless 3D, as always, but the film in itself is visually appealing. Far cry from the recently released ‘StreetDance 2’, the film boasts of breathtaking choreography, exceptional performances and some very interesting concepts in terms of the setting. Lastly, there is a bit of social message embedded in the film. It kind of, was an amalgamation of many dance forms which ends up looking magnificent on the screen. Most importantly, this film did not focus on one particular dance form. Secondly, the film balances the dances and the story equally, which is a welcome change from the third film ‘Step Up 3D’. Firstly, there is no competition among two rival dance groups (thankfully).

The chances of another ‘Step Up’ movie is even less likely considering the success of the streaming series Step Up: High Water, based on the film franchise. “I realised that I was actually part of the problem, not by contributing in some crazy way, but the fact that I hadn’t done anything to help shift that,” Chu told Business Insider. Chu has never shot down the idea of developing another ‘Step Up’ film, but has recently turned his focus towards bringing Asian representation to US movies like, ‘Crazy Rich Asians’. He directed the second and third films and executive produced the fourth and fifth. It’s unlikely a domestic Step Up 6 or Step Up 7 will happen without a big producer push. But what about a so-called “Step Up 7”? Will there be another Step Up movie? In 2016, Lionsgate partnered with Chinese company Infinity Pictures and Yue Hua Entertainment Culture Communications to produce Step Up China (aka Step Up 6) with an all-Chinese cast to appeal to Chinese audiences. There have been five domestic films in the ‘Step Up’ franchise, Step Up (2006), Step Up 2: The Streets (2008), Step Up: 3D (2010), Step Up: Revolution (2012) and Step Up: All In (2014). Whether you love the impressive dance moves or dread them, there’s no denying the dance film series is a guilty pleasure for millions of people around the world. It’s a simple concept that makes the ‘Step Up’ movies so appealing and successful to a tune of $650 million at the global box office. If you love to dance, then you probably love to watch people dance.
